TOUGHENED GLASS

The tempering process uses clear float glass. This glass is heated up to approximately 650 degrees centigrade after which, a sustained blast of cooling air is applied to the surfaces in a process called ” Quenching ” .The application of intense heat and the rapid cooling of the surfaces afterwards, produces a compression within the glass which strengthens it. The end result of this complicated process is very strong Tempered Glass.

Tempered Glass has a very high static load resistance ( 3 to 5 times ) as well as a very high impact resistance ( 5 to 10 times ) compared to ordinary glass . In the very rare event of breakage, however, tempered glass will shatter into tiny dice – like particles which minimize serious or fatal injuries, unlike the case of ordinary glass.
